Project discovery · when questions remain
Clarify the difficult decisions first.
Preparation is part of our website projects. If major questions about direction, features or scope remain, we can start with a clearly scoped paid discovery phase.
Let’s talk about your websiteA clear project before you invest further.
An existing website with substantial content, unclear features or competing needs may require more investigation. We agree the discovery scope first. Its outcome helps you decide what is needed, what can wait and who can deliver it.
From open questions to a workable project.
The illustration shows how purpose, content and next steps connect. Your plan is built around your actual business information and requirements.
From an interior question
to a website decision.
- The visitor and the question
- I want to change my living room. Do I need advice or a complete design?
- The content decision
- Three services side by side: layout, advice for one room and a complete interior plan. An example accompanies each service.
- The next step
- Invite visitors to share what they want to change at home. They do not need a complete plan yet.
A deliberate boundary In this example, the website starts a conversation rather than taking online bookings.
What brings someone here?
We identify what visitors need to know before they can choose. They may want to understand your offer, view your work, compare options or take a next step.
What needs a place of its own?
We organise your topics and decide which pages you need. Existing content, frequently asked questions and available evidence provide the starting point.
What makes the project complex?
We map features, content, editing needs and dependencies. What needs investigation first, and which elements can wait for a later phase?
What you receive.
We define the scope before we begin, so you know what will be developed and which decisions you will make.
- Project brief and decisions
- Purpose, audience, core message and the decisions that guide the website.
- Pages and content
- A page structure and an inventory of available and missing copy, images and evidence.
- Requirements and dependencies
- What the website needs to do, which access is required and which questions need further investigation.
- A defined next project
- A practical scope, phased where useful, with decisions and responsibilities for design and development.
The right next step
Is this right for you?
This is right for you if
Direction, scope or technical dependencies are still too unclear to agree design and development properly.
Another option may suit you better if
The purpose and scope are already clear enough. In that case, we include preparation directly in your business website or single-page project.

Content, decisions and responsibilities belong to the same project. We document them before starting.
- Your knowledge as the starting point
- You share your plans, common customer questions and existing copy and images. We discuss the decisions; you check that the plan reflects your business.
- An agreed paid phase
- Before starting, we agree the questions to investigate, scope, fee, decision points and deliverables. Existing content, required access and availability for feedback also affect the timeline.
- Usable with another provider too
- After payment, you receive the agreed documents in a transferable format. You can use the brief, structure, requirements and content inventory to commission the next project, including with another provider.
- No duplicate preparation charges
- If you continue with us, we use the plan as the starting point. We do not charge again for reusable preparation. The next proposal identifies additional design, development and any new research questions separately.
Good to know
Before you begin.
When is a discovery phase needed?
For example, when there is substantial existing content, several decision-makers, unclear editing requirements or dependencies on other systems. We first assess whether those questions can be resolved within a regular website project. A separate plan is not a mandatory first purchase.
Will I receive a website design?
You receive a project brief, page structure, requirements and content inventory with a defined next project. We document the relevant design principles. Complete page designs, a new brand identity, extensive content production and development are not included.
Do I need to start development straight away?
No. You can choose to continue, defer part of the project or work with another provider. If your business or project changes before you continue, we discuss which information needs reviewing.
Which questions need answering first?
Share your current website, plans and unresolved decisions. We can then establish whether discovery is needed or whether we can define the website project directly.
